"Time Withers" (2nd post)

Part 3 - Pre-production planning & Rehearsal

I didnt do much on Monday the 18th, because I had school all day. Plus Garrett, his wife Jill and his two adorable sons started traveling from Washington to Utah. So, there wasnt much for the cast to get done on Monday. Tuesday is when all the fun began!

On Tuesday, I meet up with Elisha in the morning to look for costumes. Garrett sent us a e-mail telling us what he wanted and we decided to start looking. From 9:30am to 11:00 am, we went to Ross, TJ Max, and DI. We found a couple things that might work, but it didnt feel right. The Provo DI is always picked over. Luckily, John called Hale Center Theater in the morning at 10 when they opened up and got us an appointment to meet with the costumes ladies at 12:30. After being disappointed at the little to nothing we found we were all looking forward to Hale Center Theater.

When we arrived at the HCT (I will abbreviate from now on) in Orem, we were helped by the cutest ladies! They were so excited for us, especially because they knew John really well. John has been in several plays at the HCT and currently accepted a job there. They had all these costumes ideas and the costumes where amazing! (You will see them in up-coming pictures!)

Finally, after 3 hours of trying on costumes, deliberation and Garrett finally arriving to O.K. the costumes, we were on our way! Garrett was especially excited, because we rented all our costumes from the HCT and didn't need to search anymore. It was so nice to get everything from one place!

Well, we were all planning to have a rehearsal that afternoon at 2, but because we took till 3 to get costumes we had a slight change of plans. Instead of going straight into rehearsal, we decided to scout out a location. We went to Elisha's aunts place in Orem, to see if it would work for the 1940's -1950's scene's. It was perfect, but was missing several important details that Garrett wanted. He decided to keep it in mind.

It was about 4 in the afternoon now and I was feeling a little nervous we would not get a rehearsal in before filming the next day. But, we all really needed to meet to go over the next couple of days. So, we held our first production meeting at Elisha's house and decided to rehearse latter. Yep, my first real production meeting! Upon arrival, Garrett fell in love with her house and decided that one of the scenes should be shot there. The living room was perfect for the 1980's to 2000's scenes. Same with her back-yard... It has a beautiful rock wall with a waterfall.

We meet for about 2 hours, going over important details. The most important detail, I thought, was the fact that we needed to shoot this completely backwards. We needed to start at the end and work our way to the beginning. The reason for this was Johns long hair and beard. Garrett wanted to take advantage of his hair and beard, because it made him look older. We all knew that it would be perfect for the grandpa scene's. Garrett said that he would have the hair/make-up artist cut his hair along the way to make him look younger. We all agreed that this would be smart.

It was 6 o'clock now and we needed to rehearse badly! Elisha had something going on and Garrett had to take some family pictures for Mike and Lisa. So, me and John were on our own to rehearse. I really wanted to stop by my families house on the way to BYU, because I wanted my family to see John with his amazing hair. When we walked into my house, my mom had to take a second look to figure out who it was. I didnt know this about Johns hair, but apparently he had been growing it out for a year now, including the beard. John honestly looked like someone who stepped out of New Testament times. Well, he had been growing it out to play a part in a church film, but decided that this film would be more fun... or something like that.

Actually, it was longer than in this picture...
his hair was about 3-4 inches longer (before we started filming).
Basically to help you get an idea, he could put it in a pony tail!
Elisha commented that he looked like a biker dude.

John ran an errand and we finally meet up at 7:30 to rehearse. It went well and around 9pm, Garrett, Jill and kids came to watch the end of our rehearsal. We felt good and where ready to go the next day.

I finally got home at 10pm. It was a long day!

Part 4 coming tomorrow! It will be all about the first day of shooting!
